Recycled wool, what is it exactly?<\/em><\/em><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Regenerated wool<\/strong> (also known as mechanical wool<\/strong>) is the result of a recycling process involving the use of old scraps of fabric or clothes that can no longer be worn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These fabrics are subjected to a traditional production process called regenerating cycle<\/strong>, which was rediscovered and widely adopted during the 1950s in the city of Prato<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Using recycled wool<\/strong> for production processes allows to considerably decrease the effects on the environment<\/strong>, without having to sacrifice the characteristics of the wool itself.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Collection and sorting<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    The first step in the production of recycled wool<\/strong> is the collection of all unused fabrics or garments that can no longer be worn. Once collected, they are sorted by color and type.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    1. The job of the \u201ccenciaiolis\u201d<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      The cenciaiolis<\/em><\/strong> take care of the second step. These undisputed stars of the Prato textile industry “clean<\/strong>” the fabric<\/strong> by removing all elements that may damage the production of the final fabric: linings, pockets, thermal adhesives, buttons, and various other accessories. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      1. Carbonizzo<\/em> and Lavastraccia<\/em><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

        Once the fabric<\/strong> is consistent, the material is carbonized, a process in which all cellulose parts are removed. The material is now put into a special washer that turns it back into fiber<\/strong>, making the final fabric more durable. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

        1. Drying <\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

          Finally, after drying, spinning and carding<\/strong>, the final yarn<\/strong> is made. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Fabric<\/em>s like new!<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

          Regenerated wool<\/strong> maintains all the properties of traditional wool<\/strong>: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

          • soft and pleasant to the touch<\/li>
          • thermally efficient <\/li>
          • very breathable<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n
